SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, said on Friday that the party would run a parallel government if the government’s behaviour does not change.
Addressing a press conference, Sharma, accompanied by several MLAs including Sham Lal Sharma, saidd that the Speaker has acted as an agent of a particular party and has carried out unconstitutional actions.
“The leaders intended to speak on the government’s promises and the LG’s motion, but the NC moved a resolution against the decision taken by Parliament on August 5, 2019, displaying its separatist agenda in the assembly,” he said.
He added that it is unfortunate that the Speaker publicly saidd that the resolution was a demand for Article 370 restoration, despite the fact that it was abrogated by Parliament and upheld by the Supreme Court.
“I challenge Omar Abdullah to show a single instance in the Indian Constitution where J&K’s special status was mentioned. If he can prove it, I will quit politics,” he said, adding that Article 370 is now history, as it was a temporary provision removed permanently.
Sharma continued, stating that the NC is now pushing for special status despite the era in which the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits took place, 21,800 civilians were killed, and cases like Asiya and Nelofar, Tufail Mattoo, and Haji Yousuf occurred. “They do not want tourism here, but rather street violence, which the BJP will not allow,” he said.
Sharma also mentioned that a parallel assembly session was held on the lawns of the J&K Legislative Assembly today after BJP MLAs were removed from the house. He warned that the parallel assembly should not be taken lightly, and if the government’s behaviour does not change, they will proceed with a parallel government in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that there has been a commitment to restoring statehood by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, but the NC is creating circumstances to prevent its restoration. (KNO)
