Society of Dental Surgeons, J&K (SDSJK) in an emergency video conference meet took a strong note of the order issued by Block Medical Officer(BMO) Pulwama wherein he is directing Dental Surgeons to carry normal OPD routine after performing Covid Sample Collection duties.
Dr Imtyaz Banday, President SDSJK said that it’s gross negligence on the part of BMO to issue such life-threatening order without obeying the Covid Guidelines and standing orders from Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, wherein it has been strongly mentioned not to shift or mix Covid/Non-Covid Staff which can be a source of disaster.
Dr Adil Wani Spokesperson SDSJK said that while Dental Surgeons are doing a commendable job during current covid crisis there has be no heed to their genuine demands which they have been highlighting regarding difficulties faced while handling Covid/Non-Covid Patients.
Dr Imtyaz furthermore said that BMO has rendered a casual approach while issuing such order without taking the interest of Dental Surgeons or patients into consideration.
He simply has defied the Goi MOHFW & Directorate’s guidelines. Such negligence can lead to spread of Coronavirus & threat to the public, doctor and families of the Dental Surgeons who have aged/ailing parents at home.
SDSJK stresses Director Health Service, Kashmir to immediately revoke this order and stress for implementation of Directorate order in this regard. Moreover, there should be a justified sampling roster duties in which professionals are kept in a balanced way and proper training and protective gears be given as per the guidelines. Moreover, they should be utilised as per their expertise during the current crisis as per guidelines.
SDSJK also said that there are a lot of incidents wherein Dental Surgeons are being worked as frontline workers without proper administrative quarantine facilities which has lead to a threat to them and in that context SDSJK appeals Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and LG J&K to address this grave matter at the earliest.
