Body of Drowned Minor Recovered in Bandipora After Five-day Search

   

SRINAGAR: The body of a nine-year-old boy who drowned in Madhumati Nalla near District Police Lines (DPL) in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district was recovered on Monday after a five-day search operation, officials said.

The deceased was identified as Momin Ahmad, a resident of Ganie Mohalla in the Kuloosa area of Bandipora. He had drowned in the waterway on September 10 and remained untraced despite search efforts.

An official said the body was located and retrieved during a sustained joint operation involving teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, civil administration and local volunteers.

The body will be handed over to the family after the completion of the required legal formalities, the official said.

Bandipora MLA Nizamuddin Bhat also expressed relief over the recovery. In a post on X, he said Momin’s body had been retrieved from Madhumati and thanked those involved in the search operation for their efforts and support to the bereaved family.

The MLA said the family’s grief and pain were shared by those who had stood by them during the search, and offered condolences over the child’s death.
