Even as the body of the missing goldsmith Tariq Ahmad Malik has not been recovered yet, Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday said four persons including two brothers allegedly involved in the murder of Malik have been arrested in Sopore town of north Kashmir Baramulla district.

Four persons including two brothers identified as Mohammad Ail Lara, Mohammad Sajad Lara, sons of Mohammad Afzal Lara, residents of Muslim peer-Sopore, Nayeem Ahmad Lara son of Ghulam Mohammad Lara and Ghulam Mohammad Lara son of Ghulam Qadir Lara, both residents of Ashpeer-Sopore have been arrested in connection with the murder of Malik, SSP Sopore Harmeet Singh told media persons.

However, the Sopore police chief said the body of the missing goldsmith has not been recovered so far. “Efforts are on to trace the body of Malik”, he added.

Singh said Sopore police set up a special investigation team soon after Malik went missing on December 26 to trace him. The special team arrested four accused from two different areas of the town.  The motives of the accused was to extort gold and money from the goldsmith”, he added

Malik (32), a resident of  Kalaroos-Kupwara, went missing on December 26 last year from  his shop “Carratline Gold Shop” at Chota Bazar Sopore.

Sopore town observed a complete shutdown to protest against  the missing of the shopkeeper and mysterious fire that destroyed 12 shops and a restaurant on January 2 this year. (Kashmir Wire)
