SRINAGAR : An unidentified body was recovered from a river in the Nowshera area of Rajouri district on Thursday, officials said.
Quoting an official, the news agency KNO reported that some locals engaged in contract-related work spotted the body floating in the river and subsequently informed the police.
Following the information, a police team along with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and recovered the body from the river, he said.
“The body has been taken into custody, while the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained,” the official said, adding that the body was in a decomposed condition, making identification difficult.
Police have initiated proceedings and an investigation is underway to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
