SRINAGAR

Taking note of the bogus voters in Khanyar assembly segment during recently held elections, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Srinagar has directed the police to initiate investigation into the matter.

Reports informed Kashmir News Service (KNS) that with the ‘ample proof and evidence’, the PDP’s contesting candidate from Khanyar Mohammad Khurshid Alam submitted petition before the CJM, submitting in his prayers that the bogus voters were used to cast their votes during the recently held polls.

Alam according to reports has also mentioned that he several times via the written pleas had asked the concerned authorities including the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar to delete the wrong entries in the voting list.

While taking note of the petition, the CJM directed SHO Khanyar to register case against all those involved into the issue including the electoral officer.

Pertinently the reports came to fore that in Khanyar 825 voters are either non-existent or have appeared in the list at more than one place. Around 300 voters are registered in the revised voter list at more than one place interestingly at separate polling stations.

There are at least 1200 fake entries in the revised voter list of Khanyar constituency. A resident of a particular locality also exists on another voter list of a different locality falling under the jurisdiction of another polling station.

Among the fake entries, there is sizable number of women voters who are allegedly being traditionally used as mobile voters in the city for many years now.

“Each allegedly bogus voter is carrying more than one photo identity card issued by the electoral officers. The alleged scandal came to the fore when a particular political party was scrutinizing the voter list to file the objections. However, they were taken by surprise on noticing that hundreds of voters were registered in more than one voter list,” the reports said.

Reports also informed that a woman registered in one photo-generated voter list also figures in another list with same name and photo identity.

“Number of such double entries in the electoral roll of Khanyar constituency runs in hundreds. Also, there are around 800 bogus voters who could not be traced in Khanyar constituency. These are actually non-existent voters. According to some people, this was being allegedly done by some people in the government for certain considerations,” the report said.
