The government on Friday placed under suspension the Project Officer (DFO) Lakes and Waterways Authority Mohammad Amin Mir who was convicted and sentenced to three years in jail for his involvement in BOPEE scam.

The scam was engineered by former BOPEE chairman Mushtaq Ahmad Peer who has been sentenced to 16 years in jail and fined Rs 1 crore.

“As per the information received from the office of PCCF J&K, Mohammad Amin Mir, I/C Project Officer (DFO) Lakes and Waterways Authority, has been arrested by Crime Branch. Therefore Mohammad Amin Mir Mohammad Amin Mir, I/C Project Officer (DFO) is placed under suspension with immediate effect,” reads an order issued by the Commissioner Secretary to Government Forest Environment & Ecology Department.

Meanwhile, Minister for Forest Environment & Ecology, Rajiv Jasrotia said he has taken serious note as to why the officer was not suspended within the 48 hours after being convicted.

“I have taken very strong note of the case,” Jasrotia said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Government also placed under suspension the DFO Marwah Altaf Hussain Shah who was convicted and sentenced to three years in jail for his involvement in BOPEE scam. (GNS)
