In wake of border firing along international border in Hiranagar, the district administration has launched operation for safety and rescue of border residents, an official statement said on Wednesday evening.

“Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with SSP Kathua Pawan Parihar and other senior officer visited forward border posts and villages along international border in Hiranagar sector. The officers assessed situation in Londi, Sherpur, Lachhipura, Pahadpur, Bobiyan, Pansar and frontier areas of border villages and interacted with local villagers. They also visited BSF posts along the border and assessed the security situation,”the statement said.

Bulletproof bunkers have also been stationed along the border, it maintained.

“The Deputy Commissioner assured the villagers about safety and security of border inhabitants apart from providing all basic amenities at relief camps in case of migration required to be done in wake of firing from across the border. He intimated about the already notified relief camps and nodal officers for various villages. The administration cautioned the villagers to stay indoors during night hours and be vigilant. Helpline numbers have also been provided.”

The statement further said that SSP Kathua also assured the people about security arrangements in place and night patrolling being done.

“Apart from taking proactive security and safety measures the district administration has also notified 35 relief camps in Hiranagar, Marheen and other areas for safe shifting of border residents in wake of border firing.   The DC has directed concerned officers to ensure provision of all basic facilities at designated relief camps,” the statement said.
