Locals of Singhpora Pattan on Thursday erupted in protest after they caught an alleged braid chopper who cut braid of a local woman in the area.

Local sources informed Kashmir Life that at around 12:30 pm today, a braid chopper sneaked into the house of Basharat Ahmad Malik and chopped off the braid of her wife who was identified as Azra.

They said that the lady raised hue and cry which alarmed the locals and her family members who rushed to the spot only. Upon their arrival, the braid chopper fled from the spot. However, they said, that the locals chased the braid chopper and nabbed him near the Jehlum Bund.

“Within minutes police reached the spot and took him along,” one local said.

Meanwhile, the residents have blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad National highway and are protesting against the braid chopping.

A police official from Singhpora Pattan told Kashmir Life that the alleged chopper was rescued from the mob. “We have detained him,” he said, adding that the police is busy in handling the law and order problem right now. “Will divulge further details after restoring the law and order,” he said.
