As the braid chopping incidents are on rise in Kashmir particularly southern parts of the valley, a ruling party lawmaker from Southern Kashmir has blamed “suspicious elements” for creating a fear psychosis in the region by resorting to braid chopping.

Talking to Kashmir Life the lawmaker said that some anti-peace elements want to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the region by resorting to such “cheap tactics”.

“I went to meet the people who had alleged attempts of braid chopping. After talking to them, it appears that some miscreants want to disturb the peace here.”

He said, “I have talked to the Chief Minister and she has assured that those behind the braid chopping would be brought to book.”

Meanwhile, National Conference leader and former lawmaker from south Kashmir, Sakina Itoo has alleged that government has failed to restore the confidence of the people, particularly women who are feeling insecure in Southern Kashmir due to braid chopping incidents.

Itoo said, “the people in Kulgam are terrified and feeling insecure to even venture into fields and orchards. People prefer to sit at homes to secure their female folk from the braid chopping miscreants.”

She said it is matter of investigation and responsibility of government to ensure security of the people.
