BRO Takes Over Mughal Road: Strategic Link Between Kashmir and Poonch-Rajouri Region

SRINAGAR: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has officially taken charge of the Mughal Road, a vital transport link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu. This strategic move is expected to enhance the management and maintenance of the route, which serves as a crucial alternative to the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

The Mughal Road, which stretches for 84 kilometres, traverses through the Pir Panjal mountain range and offers a shorter route for travellers between the two regions. It significantly reduces travel time compared to the traditional Jammu-Srinagar highway. With its historical and strategic significance, the road is also a vital link for trade and movement, particularly when the main highway faces closures due to weather-related disruptions.

By taking over the management of the Mughal Road, the BRO aims to ensure its upkeep and provide better infrastructure support, especially during the harsh winter months when snowfall often hampers accessibility. Improved maintenance is expected to ease the movement of both civilian traffic and security forces, further strengthening the connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of Jammu.
