SRINAGAR: Former member of the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri has resigned from the National Conference. The news came moments after PDP four time Pulwama MLA Abdul Khalid Bandh joined the NC.

Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri

“This is to tender my resignation from Central Working Committee, primary membership and any other position that I may be holding in the J&K National Conference” Ratanpuri’ resignation that he submitted to party pesiden Dr Farooq Abdulah reads. “I hope they will forget all the heated arguments and altercations I had with them all through the past ten years regularly. I realised that the only way to stop this bitterness was to quit. I expect them too to realise that nothing was and nothing is personal.”

Ratanpuri, a senior broadcaster at the Radio Kashmir Srinagar had quit his lifelong career in wake of 2008 assembly elections. He was given mandate from Pulwama which he lost. After Omar Abdullah with whom he worked during the elections, became the Chief Minister, Ratanpuri was nominated to the Rajya Sabha. He was quite an active member of the House.

While being the member, Ratanpuri has had differences with various leaders including the president. These tensions eventually led him to resign. He has always been telling that he was an outsider in the party. Before joining Radio, he was, at one point of time, editing the NC’s official organ, the Nawa-ie-Subah. In the last few year, Ratanpuri versus NC leaders including Omar Abdulah was a routine news.
