SRINAGAR: A brother and sister were seriously injured after a wild bear attacked them while they were picking apples in their family orchard at Kralmad in the Dooru area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday evening, locals said.
The injured were identified as 23-year-old Aabid Nazir and 16-year-old Sehrish Nazir, children of Nazir Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kralmad, Dooru. Both were referred to hospital for treatment.
According to local residents, the siblings were picking apples in the orchard when the bear suddenly appeared and attacked them, leaving both injured.
A wildlife team from the Dooru control room reached the area and launched an operation to trace and capture the animal. The search operation was continuing.
A wildlife official advised residents to follow safety advisories and avoid venturing out alone during the early and late morning hours.
The official urged people to move in groups when visiting orchards and keep the areas clean to discourage wild animals from remaining there for extended periods.
