SRINAGAR: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brunei is announcing applications for the Government of Brunei Darussalam scholarship for International students for the academic year 2024-25. The closing date for application of the scholarship is February 15, 2024.
The scholarship programme provides an opportunity to pursue studies at the Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Master’s Degree levels within various Brunei higher education institutions such as University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD), University of Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), University of Technology Brunei (UTB), Kolej University Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), and Polytechnic Brunei (PB).
The scholarship specifies eligibility criteria with age restrictions set at 25 years for Diploma and Undergraduate programmes and 35 years for Postgraduate programmes as of July 1, 2024. Another requirement for applicants is proficiency in English with a Credit 6 at GCE ‘O’ Level Examination or a Grade ‘C” in IGCSE English (as a second language) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL minimum score of 550.
The scholarship targets International students who are on their first academic journey in Brunei, excluding Bruneian citizens, permanent residents, and those who have previously studied in Brunei’s tertiary education institutions.
The scholarship is designed to provide a comprehensive package to applicants, covering tuition fees, examination and registration costs, providing a monthly personal allowance, meal allowance, annual book allowance, and accommodation. Additionally, scholars will receive round-trip airfare to and from their home countries, a baggage allowance for the shipment of personal effects upon completion of their studies and comprehensive insurance cover for the duration of their stay in Brunei. The scholarships require students to conform to the rules and regulations of the country as well as the universities, under the particular scholarship programme. The students are required to respect the culture, traditions, norms, customs, and official religions of Brunei Darussalam. Further, the candidates availing the benefit of these international scholarships should refrain from becoming a part of any political activity held in the scholarship country or outside.
Applicants may need to attend an interview and complete a written test to evaluate their proficiency in English, Malay, or Arabic, as required by the respective institutions. Required documentation for the application includes authenticated copies of educational certificates and other relevant documents such as diplomas, letters of recommendation, and academic transcripts, documents not originally in English must be accompanied by authorised translations, and official copies of the applicant’s Birth Certificate and Passport.
