SRINAGAR: MLA and Advocate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi has expressed strong outrage over the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Galwanpora area, calling it a “horrifying crime” and a “stain on humanity”, while announcing that he will personally assist the victim’s family in pursuing the legal battle.

In a statement shared on X, the MLA said the incident had shaken the conscience of society and stressed that those responsible must be awarded exemplary punishment. He added that the grief and trauma faced by the bereaved family was beyond expression and only swift justice could offer some measure of relief.
Highlighting his professional background as an Advocate, Mehdi said he would extend full legal assistance to ensure that the case is pursued effectively in court and that the accused are held fully accountable.
“As an Advocate, a citizen and people’s representative from Budgam, I consider it my moral and legal responsibility to stand with the family in this difficult time. I will personally extend every possible legal assistance and support to ensure justice is delivered and no guilty person escapes accountability,” he said.
The MLA demanded a prompt, transparent, and time-bound inquiry into the matter, urging the authorities to take decisive action against the perpetrators. He also called upon the public to stand in solidarity with the victim’s family and collectively condemn such heinous acts.
Notably, the brutal rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Galwanpora village, located in the Budgam district, has triggered widespread outrage and profound grief across Kashmir. The young girl went missing on May 23, 2026, and her body was discovered the following morning, merely 200 metres from her home. The police acted swiftly by establishing a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which subsequently arrested a local suspect, Mudasir Ahmad Mir, who has since confessed to the crime.
