SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition, Sunil Sharma on Friday criticised the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory budget, saying it favours National Conference MLAs and provides little support for daily wagers, unemployed youth, and BPL and EWS families.
Sharma alleged that funds allocated by the Centre were directed to NC-held constituencies. He said the budget offers no clarity on the regularisation of daily wagers, who have been waiting for a policy for over a year.
He also stated that the budget does not address unemployment or fulfil earlier promises to fill posts within 180 days. He criticised the outsourcing of nearly 24,000 jobs, claiming it bypasses merit and transparent recruitment processes.
Sharma alleged nepotism in recent recruitments and said the budget lacks a clear plan for capital expenditure. He noted unfulfilled promises under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, including free electricity and LPG cylinders, saying previous assurances were not implemented.
He said the people of JK have been let down and accused the government of misleading voters, calling the budget “disappointing” and revealing the administration’s “true face.”
Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presented a Rs 1,13,767 crore budget for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
