Opposition parties are gearing up to corner the government over the return body of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru to his family. The budget session of the State Assembly, which begins here on February 28, is likely to be stormy as the opposition is likely to corner the government on various issues, including the problems being faced by common people during curfew.

Principal opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is holding an important meeting next week at Jammu under the chairmanship of party President Mehbooba Mufti to frame the programme and issues to be raised during budget session of State Legislative Assembly.

“Party is going to meet next week at Jammu to frame the strategy”, said PDP spokesperson,Nayeem Akther, while talking to local news agency KNS. He said that all the public related important issues and prevailing situation are due to be debated.

When asked whether the party would raise the issue of return of Afzal’s body, “That is an important issue. We will raise both issues; return of body and situation that followed his execution”, he replied.

Among other issues, the opposition is planning to raise issues such as alleged police excess in Kashmir and imposing curfew and internet suspension in the aftermath of Guru’s Execution and the difficulties faced by the common people therein.

State Secretary of CPI (M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said return of Guru’s body is an important issue, adding, “I don’t have any knowledge about any resolution moved in this regard by any member but I’ll express my views in the house”.

Expressing his views about the importance of the authorization of State Accountability Commission to have an authorization to take suo motto actions, he said, “I’ve also submitted a private bill seeking the amendment to make the Commission authorized under law to take the suo motto action”.

CPI (M) leader said that devolution of powers, decentralization and maximum powers to Panchayat institution, corruption and grievances of people in his constituency will be the main focus of his party during the session.
He said that the performance of the government isn’t upto mark and needs to be discussed in the house, adding, “I’ll also raise the issues of casual labors, Aaganwari workers and Asha workers”.

Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Mohammad Yasin said that unemployment in the State is a concern of the youth and families dependent upon them which needs to be redressed. “Other issues include corruption, grievances of the common people and the performance of the government need to be addressed” said Yasin.

When asked whether return of the Guru’s body is PDF’s agenda, “I’m saying since first day that it is a human issue and it has to be resolved humanely”, he replied, adding, “PDF will express its views and demand return of the body”.

Meanwhile, ruling parties are also holding deliberations to finalize their strategies to counter the opposition on the floor of the House.
