Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu Wednesday said the government will set up a ‘Shams Faqeer Institute of Sufi and Folk Music’ School of Arts in Jammu, the winter capital of the State.
The institute would be set up in an honor to late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, who had a keen interest in Sufism and arts.
“While inaugurating the refurbished Abhinav Theatre in Jammu, Mufti sahib expressed a desire to set up a school for sufiyana and folk music. As a tribute to him, I propose to set up the ‘Shams Faqeer Institute of Sufi and Folk Music’, Dr Drabu said while presenting the budget 2017-18 in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature today. “I am making an initial provision of Rs. 5 Crore,” he said.
