Unidentified burglars attempted to break open the ATM of Jammu and Kashmir Bank near Main Chowk Zainapora in Shopian district however failed to steel cash from it.

The incident according to police took place during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

“A complaint lodged by the bank authorities said that the attempted theft took place sometime between 11 pm and 7 am,” police said.

“Burglars tried to break the machine and attempted to remove the cash from it, but failed in their attempt”, Dy SP HQ Zahoor Ahmad of Shopian police said.

“The attempt might have been made during night by the help of some sharp instrument,” he added.

Bank management has confirmed that no cash was stolen from the ATM.

The ATM is located at a busy junction, hardly half a  km away from a police Station Zainapora.
