The incident occurred Sunday night at around 11 pm,” confirmed Managing Director Cable Car Corporation Shameem Ahmed. He said CCTV footage shows a couple of persons breaking the strong locker at around 11:23 pm on Sunday night. “The faces of burglars on CCTV footage are somewhat visible and hopefully the police will identify them and looted cash may be recovered,” Shameem Ahmed said adding that the looted cash amounts to Rs 51 lakh.

When asked why so much cash was kept in the locker, he said cash was kept in the locker as it was a bank holiday on Saturday. “We didn’t withdraw cash from the locker on Saturday and Sunday. The cash was supposed to be deposited in the bank on Monday,” he added.

Pertinently, an increase in tourist footfalls has bolstered sales of Gulmarg Gondola tickets with domestic and foreign tourists enjoying a ride on this state-of-the-art cable car on a daily basis. Due to an intense heat wave in Northern India, more and more domestic tourists are visiting Gulmarg, enjoying cool Gandola ride. A police officer said that a team has been constituted to trace the burglars while an FIR vide number 5/2019 under section 457, 380, RPC has been registered at Police Station Gulmarg. (CNS)
