Authorities on Monday suspended the Amarnath yatra from Jammu for a day following a shutdown call by Joint Resistance Leadership to mark the third death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani.

“In view of a shutdown on the third death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani, no fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed from Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu on Monday,” said an official.

Only pilgrims already in Baltal and Pahalgam will be allowed to move towards the cave shrine, he said.

The shutdown was called to mark the third death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani who was killed along with his two associates by the government forces on this day in 2016 in Bamdoora village of Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Till date, 95,923 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the shrine.
