Police on Sunday reportedly booked a “fanatic” Kashmiri Pandit, Ashok Koul, for spreading false news of two “Pandit killings, ransacking on Hindu Temples, and houses” in South Kashmir through Facebook.

The case has been registered against Ashok Koul in Police Station Kothibagh Srinagar vide FIR number 44/ 2016, under 505 b (2) RPC, a top cop from Kothi Bagh confirmed to Kashmir Life on Monday.

Koul had posted: “According to sources two Pandits killed in Kashmir at some village… Many Hindu Houses Burnt… Internet Services Suspended.”

Later, Koul in another post apologised and admitted for his earlier false report in his post.

But, police authorities said that the damage had already been done, as internet has wide reach.

Meanwhile, police are also mulling to file FIR against Vinod Pandit, who according to police is also involved in spreading “venom” on social media.

Vinod had tweeted, “I’m inside Kakran temple. We are surrounded by the mob who are relentlessly attacking temple with stone. No Army and security cover is visible.”
