KCSDS (Kashmir Centre for Social & Developmental studies), a civil Society group of Kashmir, Tuesday condemned in strongest words the “brutality let loose by Indian security forces” on unarmed protestors following Burhan Wani’s killing.

At least thirty four youth have been killed and around 1400 injured.

“All those killed have been found with bullet injuries in the vital areas like head and chest showing that the police shot to kill, rather than to disperse the protesters. Doctors treating the injured said that a majority 77 persons with pellet injuries to eyes are going to lose their eyesight for-ever. There are eye-witness reports that even hospitals and ambulances are being targeted by police and CRPF on roads denying or delaying medical aid to injured,” a statement issued by KCSDS said this evening.

“A news report published on 12th July shows how a poor innocent mason, Shabir Ahmad Mir of Tengpora, barely 26 years old, was killed by SHO Police station Batamaloo in his own home. If these are not serious war crimes, then KCSDS suggests to the UN and whole international community to redraft the covenants on war crimes, human behaviour and dignity so that  states like India  are handed a licence to demolish humanity at will,” the statement said.

The statement said that KCSDS members are peeved at another news report published on 12th July “Civil society members had a meeting with Chief Minster Ms Mehbooba Mufti”.

“It wants to make it clear that KCSDS has nothing to do with such a meeting which adds salt to the injuries of those whose loved ones have been killed or injured by the present government. A group of traders, whose wisdom is limited to sale, purchase of goods and profits made thereof can by no stretch of imagination represent civil society’s concerns. Government misnaming such a meeting as representative of broad civil society is misleading to say the least. No genuine civil society representative could be so crass as to meet government functionaries when barbarity and blood shed is being carried out on the roads and streets of the valley,” the statement maintained.

The statement added, “Government obviously is desperate to catch at straws when it has lost even the last remnants of moral authority to rule.”

The statement said that KCSDS deplored, “Use of excessive and brutal force against unarmed mourners and peaceful protestors; shrinking 0f space for peaceful protest which has been choked for a long time; the complete denial of political, civil and religious rights; the legitimate leadership’s being either locked up in jails or are under house arrest.”

It reiterates that “The current crisis is symptomatic of unresolved Kashmir dispute; the Indian State is deliberately and most unfairly criminalizing the expression of genuine political rights and aspirations of the people of JK State; it should be the endeavor of all right thinking people to impress on the governments of India and Pak that K-dispute is crying for an honourable resolution consistent with the promised rights of the people; for a start all the stakeholders viz the people of JK, Governments of India and Pakistan must reaffirm their unflinching resolve to address the political dimension of the problem with a view to arrive at a durable, fair and equitable solution; GoI should cease to look at JK problem as a mere law and problem meriting brutal use of force; restrictions on leaders should be lifted.”
