Er Rasheed on Saturday said the state government stands widely exposed by detaining Hurriyat leaders who were supposed to visit New Delhi to court arrest outside NIA headquarters.

Rasheed in a statement said: “Yesterday the state police chief claimed that joint resistance leadership is free to go anywhere but today the same police chief put Hurriyat leaders under detention, thus proving that government is confused, dishonest and leaves no stone unturned to hide its suppression.”

The firebrand lawmaker said the excuse given that Hurriyat leaders would have taken out a rally before heading for New Delhi has proved that Hurriyat is enjoying mass support and government has accepted defeat.

“If New Delhi claims that Hurriyat is a Pakistan funded organization and that funding has stopped after NIA raids, then government should not have detained Hurriyat leaders if their credibility and popular support was eroded.”
