SRINAGAR: An elderly man was prevented from jumping into the River Jhelum from a footbridge in Srinagar after a man present at the spot intervened and caught hold of him, averting a possible tragedy.
Eyewitnesses said that an elderly man was about to jump into the river when the bystander acted swiftly and stopped him before he could fall into the water.
Police rushed to the spot following the incident and took the elderly man along for further proceedings. He was reported to be stable.
The circumstances that prompted the man to attempt the act are being ascertained. [KNT]
