Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved the proposal to allow the CA&PD department to grind 75% Wheat into Atta, out of the total allocation of Wheat for distribution among the consumers.

Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), Wheat is supplied at a highly subsidized rate of Rs 2 per Kg; however, NFSA does not provide grinding charges for Wheat and when the CA&PD department supplied Wheat to the rationees, a certain section of rationees especially in urban areas were reluctant to receive Wheat instead of Atta.

The State Cabinet on 11th April, 2016, took a decision to allow the CA&PD department to supply Atta instead of Wheat to the consumers and for the purpose department was authorized to charge Rs 1 per Kg Atta from the rationees, on account of grinding, transportation and handling charges.

Earlier, CA&PD department was grinding Wheat into Atta in the ratio of 60:40, which has now been enhanced to 75:25, to meet the demand of the general public.
