SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday clarified in the Legislative Assembly that the Council of Ministers had no role in approving the ropeway project for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
He said that after examining official records, it was found that neither the cabinet nor the Administrative Council had cleared the project. According to the Chief Minister, the approval was granted by the Lieutenant Governor in September 2024, prior to the formation of the elected government.
Abdullah stated that incorrect claims were misleading both the Assembly and the public. He also referred to remarks made earlier by MLA Baldev Raj Sharma, who had asserted that the cabinet had approved the project and had said he would resign if his claim was proven wrong. The Chief Minister noted that the MLA had made the statement in an emotional moment.
