The Union Health Ministry has sanctioned two State Cancer Institutes (SCI’s) and sixteen Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) Schools for Jammu and Kashmir provinces.

This was stated by the Minister of Health and Medical Education on behalf of the state government in a written reply to the query by Congress MLC, Naresh Kumar Gupta in Legislative Council on Tuesday.

It was also informed that government of India has also sanctioned National Institute of Medicinal Plants (NIMP) for which land measuring 150 Kanals has also been identified at Baderwah in district Doda.

The land measuring hundred Kanals at village Basti and fifty Kanals at Kotli has been identified for the establishment of NIMP which has accordingly been communicated to government of India for on spot inspection.

“The three member committee deputed by Union government visited the site on 27th of July this year, however, the feasibility report is yet to be received,” he informed.

Besides two new 200 bedded Maternity Hospitals one each at Bemina Srinagar and Gandhi Nagar Jammu have been taken up for execution against the cost of 26.50 and 20.50 Crore respectively.

The work against the cost of Rs Fifty Crore each has been taken up for execution while the structure has been completed and its finishing work is in progress.

“The ANM and GNM schools have been sanctioned by the central government and the work has been allotted to Jammu and Kashmir Police Housing Corporation. Once the infrastructure is completed the matter regarding staff shall be taken with Finance Department for sanction of additional manpower in this regard,” he claimed.

The centre has also provided funds worth 11.89 Crore to carryout repair and renovation of old buildings of District Hospitals for MCH purpose. An amount of rupees 80 lakhs has been released to Jammu and Kashmir Housing and Board for remodelling of old building of Sub- District hospitals Baderwah for establishment of MCH.
