SRINAGAR: National Conference has revealed that Badami Bagh Cantonment Board (BBCB) is serving warrants regarding paying property taxes in various localities falling under its municipal jurisdiction. The localities include Batwara, Shivpora, Indra Nagar and partly Sonwar.

In a statement issued to the media, party leader Ahsan Pardesi said the serving of warrant orders has caused “unrest and mental agony” among residents of these areas. The warrants have been issued to residential and commercial properties.

The Board had earlier issued property tax demands to certain areas.

“I am witness to the fact how people of these areas sold their assets and used all their savings to rebuild their houses after the massive 2014 deluge. These areas were worst hit,” the party statement quoting Pardesi saying. “LG had last year said that the JK administration would not impose any property tax on the people. It was clearly mentioned by LG Sahab that no such tax would be levied by the incumbent JK administration. Why are the localities with the jurisdiction of BBCB being singled out? When no one in the entire J&K is not paying taxes why should the particular locality be victimized.”

Pardesi said Dr Farooq Abdullah has already written a letter of Defence Minister.
