Inorganic rise usually is followed by organic fall. That is what exactly happened to Major Leetul Gogoi.

He was celebrated and honored for converting a voter into a human shield. Even Bollywood used his style in a masala film to project him as a hero. This was happening even when a case was pending against him with the police.

Then, he drove to a Srinagar hotel with a girl. It triggered a mess as the owners refused them entry. He triggered a scene and police took him to the station.

It was only after this that the army initiated a court of inquiry. The Court of Inquiry (CoI) on Monday issued orders to initiate disciplinary action against Major Leetul Gogoi and held him accountable for fraternising with locals in spite of instructions to the contrary and for being away from the place of duty while in the operational area”. He will have to face the court-martial now.

It was in May, when Gogoi, was detained by the police at a Srinagar hotel along with a Kashmiri woman and a man. After detaining him for questioning, Gogoi was later handed over to his army unit. Earlier, Bipin Rawat, said that if Gogoi is found guilty an exemplary punishment would be given to him and the punishment will set an example.

While the army is now taking the case to the court-martial, there is no report about what police did to the man identified as Sameer Ahmed, from Budgam who actually secured the girl for the Major.

Police earlier said that woman (name withheld) and a man namely Sameer Ahmed of Budgam had come to meet an army officer at Grand Mamta Hotel, in Srinagar. The particulars of the army officer were collected by the police and he was later handed over him to his unit. The statement of a woman was also recorded for probing the matter.
