After a stretch of road caved-in on Uri-Baramulla highway Tuesday evening leading to closure of Srinagar- Muzaffarabad highway for traffic, many remote areas of Uri have been continuously cut off from the district headquarters for the second consecutive day.
As a precaution, police have blocked the two ends of the highway with razor wire to prevent people from venturing closer.
Pertinently, panic gripped the area on Tuesday evening when about 100 meter long stretch along Jehlum River caved in near Khanpora area on the highway.
Locals decried official apathy saying that signs of sinking road were ominous in the area for last three weeks. “Despite bringing the matter to official notice,” said a local, “no action ensued.”
To restore the surface communication, locals told Kashmir Life that authorities are working to throw alternate road link open in the area till evening.
