Themed around this year’s global motto, Yoga for One Earth, One Health, the event aimed to inspire the younger generation to adopt yoga as a foundation for a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. Expert instructors led live demonstrations of foundational asanas and breathing techniques, offering practical insights into yoga’s benefits for physical and mental well-being.

Naseer Ahmad Rather, Field Publicity Officer, CBC Srinagar, while addressing the gathering, underscored yoga’s transformative potential. “Yoga is a powerful tool for uniting the mind, body, and soul. It is essential that our youth understand its benefits and incorporate it into their daily lives,” he said. Rather also spoke about CBC’s wider role in spreading awareness about the Government of India’s flagship schemes across Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, Shabir Dar, Assistant Director, News, Doordarshan Srinagar, urged students to serve as ambassadors of healthy living. “In today’s digital and sedentary lifestyle, physical fitness is more important than ever. A sound mind can only reside in a sound body,” he remarked.

Principal of GBHSS Batamaloo, Showkat Hussain, welcomed the initiative and said such events help inculcate values of discipline, unity, and wellness among students. “Youth are the torchbearers of tomorrow. A healthy lifestyle is essential not only for academic excellence but also for emotional and personal growth,” he said.

The yoga demonstrations were followed by an awareness session that included debate and painting competitions centred on the theme of yoga. An open quiz tested students’ knowledge of yoga’s philosophy, history, and health benefits.

Adding a creative and cultural touch to the event, artists from the SR Cultural Group, empanelled with CBC Srinagar, performed an engaging skit on yoga, fitness, and wellness, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Participants were felicitated with certificates and mementoes for their enthusiastic involvement. The programme concluded with a collective oath-taking ceremony, where students and guests pledged to embrace a healthy lifestyle and promote the ideals of peace, harmony, and the holistic vision of “One Earth, One Health.”
