SRINAGAR: The CBI Thursday filed a charge sheet against two government officials and a private person, in a bribery case, before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption (CBI cases) Jammu Bala Jyoti.

A spokesperson in a statement said, “This case was initiated on April 6, following a complaint lodged by Satvir Singh Raina, the Chief Horticulture Officer attached to the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The complainant alleged that Sarbjit Singh, the accused Chief Horticulture Officer of Jammu, had demanded a bribe of Rs10 lacs from Raina.”

The bribe was supposedly sought in exchange for securing Raina’s desired posting and resolving various departmental issues, including promotion. After thorough verification, the CBI  determined that the allegations against Sarbjit Singh were genuine.

Satbir Singh was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lacs on behalf of Mohd Farooq Dar, the Special Secretary of the Agriculture and Production Department in the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.

Further investigations revealed that the bribe money was intended to be delivered to the Special Secretary through an intermediary named Gohar Ahmed Dar. During the subsequent stages of the operation, Gohar Ahmed Dar, acting as a middleman, was apprehended while taking possession of the bribe money from Sarbjit Singh. Both individuals were promptly arrested by the established legal procedures.

To gather additional evidence, searches were conducted at the residences of both the accused parties, as well as at the residence of Mohd Farooq Dar. The searches yielded significant findings, including a sum of Rs 3.5 lacs in cash and various documents about the accused’s assets, both movable and immovable.

On conclusion of the investigation, a charge sheet has been filed today against Mohd Farooq Dar, Special Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Govt of JK; Sarbjit Singh, Chief Horticulture Officer, Jammu and Gohar Ahmed Dar, Private Person under section 120-B IPC r/w section 7 of PC Act 1988 and substantive offences thereof, before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu.
