SRINAGAR: The Special Crime Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge sheet against a Public Works Department (R and B) employee accused of forging his date of birth certificate to obtain illegal regularisation. The charge sheet in FIR No. 07/2022, registered under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code, was submitted before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Handwara, on December 11.
According to officials, the case originated after the Under Secretary to the Government, Public Works Department (R and B), sought an investigation into the suspected falsification of the birth records of Abdul Rashid Lone, a resident of Chogal, Handwara, employed as a Helper in the department. An initial enquiry by the Crime Branch found that Lone had submitted a fabricated medical certificate indicating his date of birth as April 1, 1968 to facilitate his regularisation.
Investigators later established that the date of birth recorded in the medical certificate contradicted school records, which listed his actual birth date as April 4,1950. Following these findings, Crime Branch Kashmir registered the case and began a formal investigation.
The inquiry concluded that Lone had acted in criminal conspiracy to create and use the forged document for personal gain. Evidence collected during the probe supports charges of cheating, forgery, use of forged documents and destruction of evidence.
Officials said the case has now been placed before the court for judicial scrutiny. The Special Crime Wing reiterated its zero tolerance for falsification of official records and fraudulent attempts to obtain government benefits, stressing its commitment to transparent and rigorous investigations.
