SRINAGAR: The Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCIK) has strongly condemned the recurring power cuts imposed by the Power Department, which are causing severe disruptions to businesses and hindering economic growth in the UT.

In a recent statement, the CCIK highlighted the detrimental effects of unscheduled and unexplained power cuts, expressing concerns about the reliability and efficiency of the power infrastructure. The CCIK demanded compensation for the financial losses suffered by the business community due to the power cuts.

The CCIK emphasized the adverse impact of frequent and prolonged power cuts on businesses, impacting their day-to-day operations and productivity. Manufacturing units, small businesses, and service providers heavily rely on uninterrupted power supply to meet production targets, maintain critical operations, and serve customers efficiently. The inconsistent power supply has led to delays in production schedules, loss of perishable goods, and compromised customer satisfaction. The CCIK also raised grave concerns about the hotel industry, as the power cuts have severely affected operations, guest satisfaction, and the overall tourism sector.

“The recurring power cuts imposed by the Power Department have created an unfavorable environment for businesses in J&K,” read the statement. “The financial losses incurred due to these power outages are significant, and the reliability and efficiency of the power infrastructure are under question.”

Highlighting the impact on the hotel industry, the statement further read, “The frequent power cuts have had a devastating effect on hoteliers, as they are unable to provide the expected level of service to their guests. This compromises their reputation and customer satisfaction. The hotel industry is a vital pillar of Kashmir’s economy, and the power outages are undermining its contributions and hindering its potential for future development.”

The CCIK also raised concerns about the restaurant industry, stating that the power cuts have disrupted various aspects of their operations, including food storage, preparation, and maintaining a comfortable dining environment. The lack of consistent power supply has compromised food quality, safety, and the overall dining experience for customers.

Furthermore, the power cuts have significantly impacted marriage functions and patient care. “The frequent power cuts have thrown marriage functions into disarray, compromising the comfort and enjoyment of guests,” the statement read. “The lack of electricity disrupts lighting arrangements, air conditioning, food storage, and various other critical components, leading to inconveniences and dampening the festive atmosphere.” The CCIK also highlighted the risks posed to patients in hospitals and healthcare facilities, where uninterrupted power supply is essential for medical equipment operation and stable patient environments.

The CCIK expressed concern about the diversion of the Power Department’s focus and resources towards meter installation projects instead of addressing the pressing issue of stable electricity provision. They called for prompt action to ensure uninterrupted power supply and compensation for the financial losses incurred by the business community.

In a call for action, the CCIK demanded compensation for the financial losses incurred by businesses due to the power cuts and appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to take prompt action in addressing the root cause of the issue.
