SRINAGAR: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has issued a public health alert against two unauthorised cosmetic products manufactured in Pakistan, warning that excessive levels of heavy metals detected in the products may pose health risks to consumers.
In a public notice, the CDSCO’s Cosmetics Division identified the products as Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream, both labelled as made in Pakistan.
The drug regulator said testing and analysis had established that the two products were unauthorised and had not been issued registration certificates by the competent authority for import and sale in India.
According to the notice, the products contained heavy metals beyond specified limits, which could pose health risks, including toxic effects.
The CDSCO advised consumers not to purchase the two products and not to use them or cosmetics with similar names if already purchased.
It also urged the public to buy only authorised cosmetics carrying details such as the manufacturing licence number, manufacturer’s particulars, batch number, manufacturing date and expiry date. Imported cosmetics should additionally carry the required registration number.
The regulator asked consumers to report violations involving cosmetics manufactured in India to the respective State Drugs Controller, while violations concerning imported cosmetics should be reported to the Drugs Controller General (India).
The CDSCO has also warned establishments and individuals against selling, distributing or advertising the identified products.
All regulatory enforcement units have been directed to ensure that the unauthorised cosmetics are not sold within their respective jurisdictions.
The public notice was issued by Drugs Controller General (India) Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi and circulated to State and Union Territory Drugs Controllers, CDSCO zone, sub-zone and port offices, as well as stakeholders and consumers.
