SRINAGAR: Amid inclement weather, the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil on Wednesday extended winter vacations for all government and private schools until March 15.
Earlier, on 4 December 2024, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil had announced a phased schedule for winter vacations in all government and private schools in the district.
For classes from 1st to 8th, the vacations were scheduled from 5 December 2024 to 5 March 2025, while for classes 9th to 12th, the vacations were set from 15 December 2024 to 5 March 2025.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, chaired a meeting on Wednesday at the Council Secretariat to review the ongoing winter conditions and their impact on educational institutions.
Officials said, “In light of heavy snowfall and extreme cold, the CEC announced the extension of winter vacations for both government and private schools until 15 March 2025.”
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz, Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Shrikant Suse, and the Chief Education Officer Kargil.
“This decision was made to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff amid the region’s harsh weather conditions,” the officials said. (KNO)
