SRINAGAR: Hundreds of apple trees were cut down by unidentified persons in the Rangeen Kultreh area of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, police said.
Officials said the incident has caused extensive damage to orchards in the area, with farmers reporting the destruction of a large number of apple-bearing and high-density saplings. The estimated loss is believed to run into several lakh rupees, leaving orchard owners distressed and demanding strict action against those responsible.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to identify the perpetrators and ascertain the motive behind the act.
