SRINAGAR: The Centre has allocated Rs 2,912.50 crore under the FAME-II and PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) schemes to develop electric vehicle (EV) public charging infrastructure across India, including cities and National Highways, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Replying to an unstarred question by Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Jairam Gadkari said Rs 912.50 crore had been allocated under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) scheme for installation of 9,332 EV Public Charging Stations (EV PCS) across the country.
The Minister said Rs 898.37 crore out of the FAME-II allocation had been utilised so far.
Under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, the government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore for EV charging infrastructure. Of this, Rs 688.84 crore has been approved for installation of 6,562 chargers, while no funds had been utilised for EV public charging stations till date, according to the reply.
The Ministry said the initiatives are aimed at promoting electric mobility by expanding charging facilities on a pan-India basis, including along National Highways.
As per details provided in the annexure to the reply, a total of 8,319 chargers were sanctioned under various financial years, including 7,432 chargers in 2023-24, 613 chargers in 2024-25 and 274 chargers in 2025-26. The annexure also noted that 7,432 chargers were added following lower price discovery during the tender process.
The government informed Parliament that EV charging infrastructure development is being supported through dedicated schemes to encourage wider adoption of electric vehicles and improve charging accessibility for users travelling on highways and in urban areas.
