Director, Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, on Friday visited Centre of Excellence and Hi-Tech Walnut nursery being established at Zawoora Srinagar.
He was accompanied by Chief Horticulture Officer Srinagar, Horticulture Development officer & Engineering Wing (Horticulture P&M) and other field officers of the Department.
The director took stock of the ongoing developmental activities at the Centre and HI-Tech walnut nursery. He was informed that Centre of Excellence is a prestigious project of the Horticulture Department where demonstration plots of different fruit varieties including apple, pear, peach, plum, Nectarine , apricot, cheery, almond and walnut besides quality root stock and plant material.
The Director was informed that the Center will have facilities for the production of high-quality fruit plants, micro-irrigation, high-tech greenhouse and shade house technology, Tissue culture labs, bio-control labs and weather forecasting stations. He was briefed about various varieties which are being propagated at the Centre.
The Director instructed the officers for completion of earmarked activities at the Centre within the stipulated time frame for the benefits of the farmers. He also took a detailed stock of high-density plantation as an activity to increase the returns manifold.
