SRINAGAR: The Centre has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) by two per cent for all government employees, with the revised rate effective from January 1.
The government revises the DA twice a year—for January and July—though the formal notification is often issued later, typically around major festivals such as Holi or Diwali. This time, however, the announcement was delayed, leading to discontent among central government employees.
Dearness Allowance is a cost-of-living adjustment provided to government employees and pensioners, calculated as a percentage of basic pay to offset the impact of inflation. It is aimed at safeguarding real income by ensuring that salaries and pensions keep pace with rising prices.
