The initiative builds on the earlier phase of mineral block auctions and is aimed at strengthening the region’s contribution to industrial development and national economic goals.

Under the second tranche, 12 limestone blocks located across Anantnag, Rajouri and Poonch districts will be put up for auction. These include newly identified deposits as well as blocks being re-auctioned in a second attempt.

Officials said the blocks fall under G3 and G4 exploration categories, indicating early-stage but promising geological assessments with significant potential for industrial-grade limestone.

The auction will be conducted under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, and the Mineral (Auction) Rules, 2015, through a digital e-auction system designed to ensure transparency and competitive bidding.

The launch event in Srinagar will be attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Mines and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, including Piyush Goyal and Ashwani Kumar.

Officials said the limestone reserves are significant for sectors such as cement, construction and infrastructure, and are expected to boost industrial activity and employment generation in the region.

The Ministry said the initiative aligns with its broader focus on scientific and sustainable mining practices, and is expected to enhance revenue generation while supporting inclusive economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.
