Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Umang Narula Thursday sent a reminder to police higher ups asking them to provide the details of security manpower needed for the forthcoming Assembly elections immediately.

Sources told KNS that the CEO had already sent a detailed letter to the police higher ups asking them to provide these details. “The police higher ups have forwarded it to the district SPs asking them to provide the details as how much manpower was required for the security during the elections. Also it has been asked to provide the details in how many phases the elections can he held,” they added.

Sources said that within a day or two the police higher ups will reply back to the CEO. They said that concerned Deputy Commissioners have also been asked by the CEO to provide all the necessary details regarding the smooth conduct of polls.

“It is expected that before October 18, all the details would reach to the office of CEO as on the same day in the evening the Election Commission of India (ECI) full team is expected to announce when the elections in the flood hit state can be held,” they added.

Sources said that both police and administration have given a green-signal for conducting polls anytime in near future. “In a recent meeting with CEO, both police and civil administration top brass ensured the CEO that they were ready for holding elections whenever the EC likes,” they added.
