Political leaders, academicians, writers and Civil Society members in one voice on Wednesday urged upon the Government to take stern action against the former Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) Chairman Mushtaq Ahmed Peer for his alleged involvement in CET paper leak scam.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigam told CNS that there should be no cover up and matter should be investigated thoroughly. “It is a serious matter and the facts must be established to punish the guilty,” Tarigami said adding that no one has right to play with the career of our children.

National Conference legislator, Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal said that Mushtaq Ahmed Peer and his associated are bound to face the music. “Government has taken the cognizance of the matter and whosoever found involved in the grim deal will face the music,” Kamal said adding that corrupt bureaucrats should be shown door at an earliest.

Kamal further said that Crime Branch should probe the matter thoroughly and punish the guilty as nobody in future could dare to play with the careers of bright and hardworking students.

Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir told CNS that if allegations are proved then the accused should be awarded stern punishment. “Law will take its own course and corrupt could not save themselves from the clutches of law,” Mir said.

Suggesting Government to shift Mushtaq Ahmed Peer to Cargo interrogation Centre, MLA Langete Engineer Rashid said that Peer is liable for third degree torture. “When Police can interrogate the militants and give them third degree treatment, why it can’t torture Mushtaq Ahmed Peer to reveal the truth. I am of the firm belief that the accused involved in the scam deserves third degree torture,” he said.

Rashid claimed that former BOPEE chairman could not have acted in isolation and he surely has the backing and support of some politicians. “There is politician and bureaucrat nexus which needs to be unearthed,” he told CNS.

Political and social activist and Professor History, Muhammad Yousuf Ganaie said that corruption in Kashmir has increased manifold. “There is no accountability. Politician-Bureaucrat nexus is deep rooted. Corrupt bureaucrats are not taken to task due to their affiliation with politicians. If Mushtaq Ahmed Peer is responsible for the mess then he should be given stern punishment without any delay,” he said adding that political elite are playing the role East India Company officials busy in plundering and amassing the wealth on cost of human values.

Renowned writer and poet Zareef Ahmed Zareef told CNS that due to lack of accountability corrupt politicians and bureaucrats find it easy to violate the law and indulge in corruption. He said that our youth are suffering from depression and everyday Kashmiri youth in one or the other area attempt to commit suicide.

“What answer these accused could give to those bright and hardworking students with whose careers they played. I hope this time Government will wake up and in the interest of our progeny award severe punishment to the guilty involved in CET paper leak scam,” he told CNS.

Chairman Kashmir Economic Alliance, Muhammad Yaseen Khan said that former BOPEE Chairman has done a heinous crime and he is liable for punishment. “Mushtaq Peer has murdered the law and he is directly responsible for pushing our youth to wall and depression. Government must act swiftly and expose all those persons involved in the scam,” Khan said.
