SRINAGAR: Rehabilitation of the main bridge in Chadoora town is under way after the work was awarded for Rs 999.54 lakh, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed the Legislative Assembly.
The Public Works (R&B) Department provided the details in response to a starred question by Chadoora MLA Ali Mohammad Dar on the status of bridges in the constituency.
The main Chadoora bridge was declared unsafe and closed to vehicular traffic from November 28, 2025. It was subsequently inspected by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, which submitted its recommendations on February 2, 2026.
Based on the technical recommendations, the department prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for rehabilitation and secured Administrative Approval for Rs 999.54 lakh. The work was awarded on August 3, 2026, and is currently in progress.
The department said the alternate bridge near the New Bus Stand, Chadoora, has already been constructed. However, it cannot yet be commissioned as the approach road linking it with the Chadoora-Maibugh Road remains incomplete because of pending land acquisition.
An allocation of Rs 50 lakh has been made under UT Capex 2026-27 for completing the approach road. The government said land acquisition and alignment feasibility were currently being processed, after which the approach road would be taken up and the bridge commissioned.
On the Hanjigund-Chadoora bridge, the government said it forms part of a project for constructing a road diversion from Hanjigund to Chadoora via Dawlatpora, including a 1×35-metre span truss girder bridge.
The project was sanctioned under NABARD RIDF-XXVII. The bridge and around 2.50 km of road have been completed, taking the overall physical progress of the project to 76 per cent.
The remaining work was affected by land ownership disputes and litigation in WP(C) No. 54/2024 before the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The government said the matter was subsequently taken up following the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam.
The project is now nearing completion, with only a minor portion of the work remaining.
