The Kashmir based traders Thursday said that the situation arising out of the “unabated rise” in airfares has been noted with concern.

“For a long time, we repeatedly brought to the notice of the authorities with the Union Government and State Government that the valley does not have the direct railway connectivity with rest of the Country; Jammu-Kashmir highway road conditions are also more often unpredictable due to inclement weather conditions through long winters,” Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry said in a statement this evening.

“There is a large number of businessmen doing their business in different parts of India; the students seeking education in different institutes and seriously ailing patients referred for medical treatment outside  the State are, therefore, dependent on the air travel. The exorbitant unrealistic airfares are back breaking for them as it brings the misery to people thus in need,” the statement adding “the Chamber therefore, would impress upon the authorities to look into the matter seriously not only to see that the airfares are restricted to a reasonable limit but also to find out the cause for the sudden hike in the fare on this route for no apparent reason.”
