On Tuesday evening a total anarchy was seen in city’s traffic management with vehicles stranded in irate traffic jams triggered by the “sudden and unannounced” blockade raised on route to Jehangir Chowk near Srinagar’s Civil Secretariat.

One stranded passenger said the traffic cops regulating city traffic only allowed the VVIP traffic movement on Jehangir Chowk. A huge rush of civilian traffic was diverted through congested Maharaj Bazaar road, he said.

“This ill-traffic management triggered crisis on the spot,” the passenger said. “The stranded passengers created fuss by raising panic calls thanks to city traffic authorities.”

The city where the traffic mess is mounting on face of frequent official movement and rising tourist footfall, the civilian traffic movement often bears the brunt.

SP Traffic (Srinagar) Haseeb-ur-Rehman while accepting the mess said it was triggered by the confusion between cops and authorities. “From tomorrow, the mess will be sorted out,” he said.

While detailing out the new traffic plan for areas falling close to Civil Secretariat, SP Rehman said during morning and evening, the traffic will be diverted to Maharaja Bazaar. “People have to cooperate with traffic department, as the city’s traffic mess will remain there till the completion of flyover,” he said.

But between official obligation and rising vehicular footfall, it seems, the confusion and chaos in traffic will continue to haunt city in coming times.
