Dr. Mohammad Ramzan, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kupwara, informed the news agency KNO that a 9-month-old baby in Puthwari Nowgam has been diagnosed with chickenpox. As a precautionary measure, the child has been kept in isolation at home.

Dr Ramzan emphasised that it is an isolated case and there is no need to panic, but he urged people to take necessary precautions.

Teams of doctors have been deployed to monitor the situation closely in the area. They are conducting checks, especially among children, to prevent the spread of this highly contagious disease.

Chickenpox, caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), manifests as an itchy, blister-like rash that typically begins on the chest, back, and face, eventually spreading throughout the body.-(KNO)
