SRINAGAR

With Kashmir Valley under the grip of 40-day long period of harsh cold, the sun is shining over Srinagar at the moment triggering a temperature rise in many places.

The MeT Department said the temperature improved for the first time in the last 10 days—“though nights continue getting colder”.

In Srinagar, the MeT Department said, temperature increased by nearly six degrees from the previous night’s minimum temperature of minus 5.6 degree Celsius.

Apart from Srinagar, temperature rise was registered in other parts of Kashmir.

The rise has been recorded at a time when Kashmir Valley is under the grip of ‘Chillai Kalan’—the harshest period of winter known for its frequent occurrence of snow and nail-biting cold.
