SRINAGAR: Ahead of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, a prominent Gujjar leader and former minister, Choudhary Zulfikar Ali is all set to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tomorrow (Sunday).
Choudhary Zulfikar, who has previously been associated with various political parties including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has held significant positions such as Cabinet Minister for multiple departments including Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, and Tribal Affairs.
He was also a founding member of Altaf Bukhari’s Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), where he served as Vice President.
Choudhary Zulfikar, a prominent Gujjar leader hails from Rajouri and has strong footing in Pir Panjal region. His move to join BJP is expected to strengthen the party’s presence in the region.
On Saturday, he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi where he claimed that he raised various issues.
“Had a nice Meeting with Jb Amit Shah Sb at Delhi and discussed various issues pertaining to Rajouri & Poonch besides Political scenario in the Region.” Choudhary Zulfikar said in a post on ‘X’.(KNO)
